TIPS AND SELF-REMINDER
I have major problem about
organizing my time and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Did you ever feel like
you should do it something by now but you are too lazy to do it, and it is a
long term project, so you like always keep procrastinate it, by saying “I can
do it tomorrow after…” inside your head. It happens to me like all the time and
I repeat it tomorrow after tomorrow. So, I know that this is not one of the
good habit and I’m trying to change it as possible as I can. Then, I find the
tips from a youtuber, Lavendaire, in her youtube channel “How to Stop
Procrastinating and Get Work Done”.
The first, I thought I will
just watching the video and trying to break down my bad habit by following the tips.
But, I also want to give you some experiences of mine related to my daily life
and hopefully it can motivate you as well. So, here are the tips to help you
avoid the procrastination from Lavendaire and me :
.1
Resistance
According to Lavendaire,
resistance is the thing that keeps you from doing your work. We might procrastinate
something because we scared of it at first. Something like writing thesis or
essay for example. It is one of the example of long-term project. Why should
you do that? Of course, in order to graduate from your study. So, you could get
a better job and so on. But, it depends on you whether you want it to be fast
or slow. Instead of doing that, you decide to do something else like checking
social media, watching movies or eating something out of the fridge, and etc.
You get distracted and do not be able to focus. It’s kind of normal, I think
everyone has ever been in that zone, but how to handle that? By giving the deadline
for every work that you think it’s important. You have to do that right now.
And if you do it on time, give yourself some rewards.
.2
Take action
Sounds easy, right? But it
really is, actually. Lavendaire suggests us to do the smallest or easiest step
first (toward our goal). If somebody can, why can’t you? All you need to do is
action. Start from the simplest one. Next simple one. Then next simple one, and
if you keep doing that, you can build
the momentum and you just in flow until all the process has done. I’m sure you can do it!
.3
Set an end time (deadline)
To make yourself start an
action, you can just simply set your deadline for like the next thirty minutes
or an hour. So, you should be focus on that time for your work or project only.
Keep yourself away from any distraction by using “Forest app”. You can download
that app in Google Play and luckily it is free. That app will help us to stay
focus and we can ignore our phone for a while. Besides, you can plant a seed in
Forest. As time goes by, this seed will gradually grow into a tree. However, if
you cannot resist the temptation of using your phone and leave the app, your
tree will wither. After the time is up, you can just go and feel free to
do what you want to do. At least, there’s
some progress on your project even if it is just a little.
.4
Set the mood
I totally, completely agree
with this one. Mostly, every work that I’ve done is because I’m in the mood to
do it. Whether I’m in bad mood or in good mood. Sometimes, bad mood is also the
mood that can make me do something. Writing, for example. But, if I’m not in
the mood, I just do nothing like laying in my bed, put the earphones on,
playing online games, checking social media or watching youtube. Such not
productive!
Well, based on the video, we
can set our mood by playing our favorite songs, making some cups of tea and etc.
So, it is up to you, how you can make your mood up.
.5
Journal and meditate
Lavendaire said that you can
put the things inside your head into your journal. You can be the motivator for
your journal. I agree with it. But it should be balanced with your willingness
to what you’ve been writing in that journal. I’ve done it several times. When
the idea comes up into my mind, I write it down to the paper instead. Thinking
that I will do it later today. But somehow, a few hours later, the spirit of
that idea is gone. Sometimes, I’m just tired, sometimes, I’m lazy. Speaking of
lazy, lazy is something that cannot be cured by someone else, it has to be you,
yourself. It doesn’t mean that we should be productive all the time, as we all
know, we have our limits. My tips for overcoming that laziness is just by knowing
what can makes our spirit come back again. Maybe just remembering what our
goals are is enough.
That’s all the tips to stop
procrastinating inspired by Lavendaire, hopefully we can be more productive in
the next time, and this article will be useful for those who need motivation,
including me. Thank you for reading this and stay tuned for the next article.
Goodnight.
Let’s start a new habit ! BETTER NOW THAN
NEVER !!!
